Ali Bacon: In the Blink of an Eye

In the Blink of an Eye: The Work and Women of Edinburgh artist David Octavius Hill. is a re-imagining of the life of this Edinburgh artist whose second wife was Amelia Paton of Dunfermline.

In this event, Ali will read extracts from her second novel In the Blink of an Eye. The novel explores the life and work of iconic Edinburgh artist and photographer  David Octavius Hill. She will  consider the role of Hill’s wife, Amelia Paton alongside the other women in Hill’s  life.

Ali Bacon (aka Alison Hay) was born in Dunfermline and attended school there. Her first novel, A Kettle of Fish was published in 2012. Her first historical novel, In the Blink of an Eye, marries her passion for fiction and early photography, exploring as it does the iconic partnership of Octavius Hill and Adamson (1843-47) and its impact on the life of Hill.  In the Blink of an Eye has been long-listed for The People’s Book Prize and excerpts have been performed at the St Andrews Photography and Cheltenham Literature festivals.
